The comparison between Catholic teaching on purgatory and the same themes presented in Judaism and reformed Christianity that Dr. Anderson offers is an eye opener. A thoughtful read! Radically shifted my thinking about the biblical witness of the poor, Christology in almsgiving, and spurned some further reflections on the place of solidarity in the context of building up treasure in heaven. The author, a Catholic scholar at Notre Dame, writes about the early church and Judaism during the same period and why gifts of money to the poor were so important.
He focuses on the idea of a treasury in heaven that we will with good deeds that can act as a memorial of our righteousness before God and also encourage God to forgive us and answer our prayers.
